The first step I did in the process of this type design was sketches. I chose words that I wanted to describe this type; slim/tall, strong, fast, and feminine. With these words I then drew some letters that would portray each of these styles.
After having a variety of styles I combined some of my sketches and created a rough type design. I started out with a very vertical type and then began to work with angles to shear the typeface, creating the "fast" motion.
After finalizing the look of my type design, I drew out the letters with proper proportions and created type specimens.
Once the design is finalized I transferred it to the computer. First, creating the vectors in Adobe Illustrator.
After the letters were completed I began to place these vectors into Font Lab. Once the entire alphabet, numbers, and symbols were complete I could begin adjusting the metrics and kearning.
Once all that is completed I generate the font and now have a typeface designed for the female athlete!
